1. Why do so many clients choose to book with you?
I've been piercing professionally since 2003 and have spent more than two decades refining my craft. Many clients choose to book with me because they value experience, personalised consultations and a detailed approach to placement, jewellery selection and long-term healing. My goal isn't just to perform a piercings, it’s to help you achieve the best possible result for your anatomy and lifestyle. My approach combines extensive experience & a commitment to best practice standards.
2. What made you open Cherrycore?
I wanted to create the kind of studio I wished existed when I started my career. A space that combined exceptional safety standards, beautiful jewellery and genuinely personalised service. Cherrycore was built around the belief that clients shouldn't have to choose between going to the hairdressers or a tattoo shop for a piercing. A clinical environment and a welcoming one was possible with the sole focus on high quality jewellery & body piercing services.
3. What's the most common thing clients ask you during a consultation?
"Will this suit me?" Almost every consultation comes back to confidence. Clients want to know whether a piercing will complement their features, anatomy and personal style. That's why consultations are one of my favourite parts of the appointment—I love assisting people find something that feels uniquely theirs.
4. How do you decide whether a piercing is right for my anatomy & Do you ever tell clients not to get a piercing?
Anatomy plays a huge role in piercing success. During your consultation, I assess factors such as tissue structure, available space, healing considerations and jewellery options. Sometimes the best recommendation isn't the piercing you originally planned, but it’s the one that will heal beautifully and suit you for years to come. I Absolutely do not like being the bearer of bad news but client safety is a priority, I am 100% confident in saying no and providing an understandable explanation as to my reasons. I also believe if I say no to a piercing that I am one of the few in Australia that has the experience to have a final say on safety. Not every piercing is suitable for every ones anatomy, and sometimes a different placement will give a much better result or a custom piece of jewellery will allow a piercing to be successful and sometimes simply an alternative technique used to preform the piercing. In any case I'd rather have an honest conversation and help you achieve a piercing that heals beautifully than perform one that isn't likely to succeed. And to add, if you have been told no to a piercing, I am more than happy to assess and see if the piercing is possible and help you understand the ins and outs. Unfortunately I find a lot of ‘No’s’ are inexperience disguised as a professional opinion rather than transparency with recommendation. For example in the case of Navels as the most controversial I encounter, it maybe be a no for now but its not a no forever.
5. What do you love most about your job?
Watching clients see themselves differently. Sometimes it's a brand-new piercing, sometimes it's upgrading jewellery they've had for years, and sometimes it's completing a project we've been planning together for months. Seeing that confidence boost never gets old.
6. What piercing would you recommend for someone who's nervous?
Lobes are always a great starting point, but the best piercing depends on the individual and their goal. Its normal to be nervous but I take the time to discuss your options, answer your questions and make sure you feel comfortable and confident before we begin. Most clients tell me afterwards that the anticipation was far worse than the piercing itself and I personally see the discomfort of piercing is forgotten once my clients look in the mirror. Kids ear lobe piercing are a great example of this transformation, they don’t hide their nerves very well and the excitement after is radiant along with the happiness being contagious.
7. What would surprise clients to learn about you?
Outside of piercing, I've also trained and worked in hairdressing, beauty therapy, aesthetics, wound management and jewellery design. Those experiences have shaped how I approach everything from healing and aftercare to jewellery selection and styling.
8. If you could only wear one piece of jewellery for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A beautiful solid gold piece with a timeless design. Trends come and go, but quality jewellery never goes out of style. I love pieces that can be worn every day and still feel special years later. Im a diamond and pearly girly.
9. What's your favourite part of creating ear curations?
Every ear is different. I enjoy finding the balance between anatomy, jewellery, proportions and personal style. Some clients want something minimal and elegant, while others want a bold statement. The challenge of creating something that feels perfectly tailored to the individual is what makes it so rewarding.
10. After all these years, what keeps you passionate about piercing?
The industry is constantly evolving. There are always new techniques, jewellery designs, materials and educational opportunities to explore. More importantly, every client brings a different story, goal or idea. No two days are ever exactly the same, and that's what keeps it exciting.
11. What's one piercing myth you'd love to put to rest?
One myth I'd love to put to rest is that if two studios stock the same jewellery brands or belong to the same professional organisations, the results will automatically be the same. While quality jewellery is important, the skill and experience of the person fitting it are just as critical. I often see jewellery that has been scratched, damaged or improperly fitted, which can affect both healing and longevity. Great outcomes come from the combination of high-quality jewellery, proper technique and a piercer with the knowledge and experience to use it correctly.
12. What's one thing you wish every client knew before their appointment?
You don't need to know exactly what you want before you arrive. That's what consultations are for. Whether you have a detailed Pinterest board or no idea where to start, we'll work together to find the option that's right for you.
