Body Piercing Info
Body piercing is our main activity performed at the Studio. We specialise in all areas of body piercing; head-to-toe. Whether it be a nose piercing, genital piercings, or large gauge scalpel piercings, we can do it! We never, ever use piercing guns! These violent contraptions force a blunt object through your skin at high speed and slam on a back point that hold a lot of pressure on your new piercing. They also cannot be sterilised. This means that the body fluid from all previous clients is likely all over the machine that's about to break your skin. So in the interests of the health of your piercing, and the prevention of spreading blood-borne pathogens such as HIV and Hepatitis B & C, you should never get pierced with a piercing gun! Ensure that you always get pierced with single use, sterile needles (even for basic ear lobe piercings!)
We only use jewellery made from high quality, internally threaded, implant grade titanium, Niobium and/or solid 14k/18k gold in all fresh piercings.
Body jewellery made of 316L surgical stainless steel is the most commonly used, and is also the lowest quality material that may be used in an initial body piercing by Victorian law. There is a nickel release from this material, some people are allergy prone to this material, the healing rate is slower, and the rejection rate for body piercings is higher when this is used. It is for this reason that we use jewellery made of solid implant grade titanium in our piercings. Implant grade titanium is the best quality material for initial body piercing; its biocompatibility has been proven to be incredibly high, there is no nickel content and is completely non-allergenic. Titanium can also be anodized; a process in which an electrical current builds an oxide layer on the surface of the material which changes the surface colour and also further increases the biocompatibility of titanium. "Internally threaded" means that the attachment(s) for barbells and rings have a thread that protrudes from them, and screws inside the shaft of the barbell. This allows for a completely smooth barbell surface to pass through the piercing, so as not to cause any extra trauma to a fresh piercing. It also allows for more options with attachment styles, as you do not need to allow room inside the attachment for a thread to screw onto an externally threaded barbell. All jewellery and tools are carefully cleaned, disinfected and sterilised in the Studio to ensure a high standard of sterility. Our steam autoclave is tested and serviced regularly to ensure that it is functioning properly. All needles, surgical gloves, lubricant sachets, skin preparation wipes and skin marker pens are pre-sterilised, individually packaged and strictly single use. By Victorian law, we cannot perform a body piercing on a client under the age of 16 without parental consent. This means that a parent/legal guardian must attend the Studio with you, provide documentation to prove their guardianship, and sign the consent form. For clients over 16, you still need photo ID with you to get a body piercing. We cannot perform intimate (nipple and/or genital) piercings on anyone under the age of 18, or without photo ID. This is not only for legal reasons, but health reasons also. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns that you may have! We'd be happy to help in any way that we can.
